Cuttack: In a blatant violation of law and order Friday evening in Bhubaneswar, an auto-rickshaw driver allegedly attempted to rape a female entrance examination candidate at Latabaseli forest area near Mundali under Barang police limits in Cuttack district.

The girl who is a postgraduate student and belongs to Jajpur district was on her way for her entrance examination from Cuttack in the auto-rickshaw at a centre in the capital City.
Instead of heading towards the destination, the auto-rickshaw driver took his vehicle towards a deserted forest area where he attempted to rape the girl. Hearing the girl screaming for help, two passerby including a journalist rescued her and caught hold of the accused person.
They later handed over the auto-rickshaw driver to Barang police.
The accused driver was identified as Dilip Mohapatra of Bada Sahi of Banki area in Cuttack district and has been detained by police. The police have been interrogating him to find out details of the case.
