Mumbai: Ayushmann Khurrana’s spy comedy Udta Teer collected Rs 4.92 crore gross at the domestic box office on its opening day, the makers announced Saturday.
Dharma Productions shared the figure in a social media post, thanking audiences for their response to the movie, which made its debut in theatres Friday. The film also stars Sara Ali Khan.
“The laughter fiesta continues on the big screens, thank you for the love!” the production house said, alongside a poster, which stated that the movie earned Rs 4.10 crore gross on day one.
Directed by Akash A Kaushik, Udta Teer follows a Pakistani spy, played by Khurrana, who loses his memory after a blast and begins to believe that he is an Indian Counter-Terrorism Squad officer.
His mistaken identity sets off a chain of comic and action-packed events as he becomes caught up in a cross-border espionage operation.
The film also features Rahul Bose, Ram Kapoor, Suhail Nayyar, Gulshan Grover, late Mukul Dev, Raghubir Yadav, Brijendra Kala, Supriya Pilgaonkar and Sandeep Anand in supporting roles.
Udta Teer marks the directorial debut of Kaushik, who earlier worked as a writer on movies such as Housefull 4, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.
The project marks the fourth collaboration between Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions and Guneet Monga-led Sikhya Entertainment after The Lunchbox, Kill and Gyaarah Gyaarah.
The film is also produced by Adar Poonawalla, Apoorva Mehta and Achin Jain. Sachin-Jigar have composed the music.
