Bhubaneswar, Nov 17: The condition of Balia, who was separated surgically from his conjoined twin Jaga recently, hasn’t shown desired improvement, Health Minister Pratap Jena Friday. Jaga, he said, was doing well.
“Balia’s condition is stable but he hasn’t shown improvement as expected. He is suffering from fits and the medicines administered to control the condition are making him drowsy,” the minister said and added that the child has been kept under close observation of doctors.
Coming to Jaga’s condition, the health minister expressed satisfaction. He said Jaga’s condition had improved greatly compared with Balia’s that the child “is active”. “Jaga is seen playing and taking normal diet,” Jena said.
Jena reiterated that the government will continue to provide the required support for the treatment of the separated twins from Kandhamal.
Sources said the twins are expected to remain under observation of AIIMS doctors for at least two months more.
The kids had undergone a two-stage separation surgery at AIIMS New Delhi, after being admitted to the premier health institute July 14. The second phase of the marathon surgery was performed October 25 in which as team of 30 doctors from neurosurgery, neuro-anaesthesia and plastic surgery departments along with paramedical staff were involved.
