Ban orders in city after clashes

Bhubaneswar: The commissionerate police Sunday imposed Section 144 CrPC at Sarakantara, Jadupur and Raghunath Nagar in the city to ensure law and order following clashes over a road mishap that occurred in the locality Saturday.
Sources said trouble began after a motorcyclist from Jadupur hit a youth of Sarakantara near Mumtazali High School. Soon a quarrel ensued between the biker and the victim. Subsequently, angry locals from Sarakantara roughed up the biker.
However, elders intervened to broker a truce between the parties Sunday morning. But, the issue did not end there as some locals of Jadupur later attacked a boy of Sarakantara in retaliation. They also ransacked some shops in Raghunath Nagar.
Soon tension percolated into three localities and the residents began congregating at different places. On being informed, senior police officials led by DCP Satyabrata Bhoi, Tamando police in-charge Kishore Mund, Kharavel Nagar police IIC Sanjeev Satpathy, Badagada police IIC Suvendu Sinha and Zone-1 ACP Aswin Panda reached the spot and tried to maintain law and order.
“We have sought six platoons of armed police to ensure peace in the troubled areas,” Bhoi said, adding a PCR van was damaged in stone-pelting by the residents.  PNN
