Bandh hits normal life in Mayurbhanj district

Baripada, Sept 23: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha sponsored 12-hour Mayurbhanj bandh passed off peacefully in most parts, Wednesday.
The bandh was observed in protest against the state government’s move to close the Baripada Urban Cooperative bank and in support of the party’s demand for revival of the bank and declaring the district as drought-hit.
Normal life and vehicular movement were paralysed during the bandh with thousands of commuters left stranded at different places.
JMM activists staged picketing outside government offices on the main thoroughfares of the district headquarters town. Protesters also blocked the National Highway at Palbani by burning tyres. Shops, commercial establishments and educational institutions in some parts remained closed. Elaborate security arrangements were made during the bandh.
JMM district unit president Phagu Hansda claimed
that the bandh was successful in the district.
