Angul: In a major breakthrough, the town police in Angul district along with a Special Task force (STF) of Bihar nabbed a most wanted criminal involved in several bank dacoits in Bihar, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal and Odisha.
The arrested criminal has been identified as Madhav Rabi Das. Das is involved in Angul’s Andhra bank loot and Indian bank loot in April 6 and July 7 respectively.
After the two loots, the Angul police had nabbed two of his associates and discovered that the mastermind behind the crimes was Madhav. In a bid to nab him, the cops started digging further and found out that he was a Maoist earlier.
Later, Madhav had left the Maoist camp and had formed a gang. Since 2004, the gang had committed loots in five states and was also involved in murder cases. Madhav had also faked his identity as Sujit Mittal and had obtained a PAN card in the name.
Under the orders of Crime Branch DIG and Angul SP, a special team was formed to track down Madhav. The special team along with STF of Bihar successfully caught hold of Madhav in Dhanbad, West Bengal.
Angul police has decided to pray for a 10-day remand of the criminal for further investigation into the matter.
