Bargarh: A BJD worker was left battling for his life after he was shot at by unidentified miscreants here in the district Wednesday noon. Satya Narayan Das was rescued and admitted to Burla-based Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR).
Das has sustained two bullets shots in his belly and leg, reports said. The firing incident is claimed to be the fallout of a past political rivalry between supporters of BJD and that of BJP.
Two people on a motercycle swooped down on Das and fired four rounds at him. Two bullets pierced into his body, one into his belly and another hit his leg.
Das’s brother said, “My brother is a BJD worker. The attackers are from the BJP. Actually they had come to attack my brother’s friend Mano Bhai. As my brother was sitting in the front, the bullets hit my brother. Four rounds were fired. Two bullets have pierced into his belly and leg.”
Sohela police have rounded up a youth named Ashwini Suna in this connection. Soon after the incident, local residents torched a shop in the presence of police personnel deployed there.
Irate locals have blocked the Bargarh-Raipur stretch of the National Highway protesting against the attack.
