Cuttack, July 14: The Orissa High Court Tuesday turned down a petition filed by Barsa Soni, daughter-in-law of ex-minister Raghunath Mohanty, seeking expeditious hearing of her maintenance plea in a lower court.
Justice Subash Chandra Parija ruled that since the petition regarding domestic violence filed by Soni in the SDJM court was challenged in the sessions judge court in Balasore, the case cannot be taken up for hearing.
Soni had moved the SDJM court alleging she was tortured for dowry by the former minister’s son Rajashree. She also moved the HC seeking expedited hearing of the case. She had informed the court that the delay in hearing of her petition was being caused by Rajashree.
In her plea to the SDJM court, Soni sought monthly maintenance of `60,000 to meet her expenses arising out of her daily needs and higher study.
However, this was challenged by Rajashree in the sessions court.
Soni had married Rajashree in 2012. However, they had separated out within a year. Soni alleged that she was tortured physically and mentally at the hands of her in-laws.
