Bhubaneswar: The 41st edition of ‘Barsha’, organised by Chinta O Chetna, concluded here at Rabindra Mandap Thursday.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Minister for Higher Education and Agriculture Arun Kumar Sahoo, Jnanpith awardee Prativa Ray and state secretary of Chinta O Chetana Surendra Das among others.
During the three-day event, the audience was held spellbound with the Odissi performances by Sujata Mahapatra, pupils of Ratikanta Mahapatra’s Srujan and members of Gajendra Panda’s Tridhara dance academy.
On the concluding day, musical performances by Pranab Kishore Patnaik, Sangita Gosain, Mitali Chinara, Adyasha Das, Laxmikant Palit, Sangeeta Panda, Bijay Kumar Jena, Mamta Padhi, Ramhari Das, Bibhu Kishore, Rupak Parida and several others, kept the audience on the edge of their seats.
The beautiful ‘Malhar’ of Barsha was soulfully recreated by eminent singers like Sangita Gosain and Mitali Chinara.
Interacting with Orissa POST, Gosain said, “Barsha Mahostav is a beautiful depiction of rain through dance and music. I have been associated with the Barsha Mahostav for a long time. Today, I am performing a song – ‘Kala Kala Ei Megha Ku Dekhile Kalia Paduchi Mane’ – which is written by Prafulla Kumar Tripathy and the music is composed by Suchitra Mahapatra. The song is associated with Jagannath culture.”
Mitali Chinara said, “The new song which I will perform today is written by Antarjyami Mishra and the music is composed by Laxmikant Palit. It’s based on Ghoomar style. Today, I will perform this song for the first time and it will definitely entertain the audience.”
The event was presented by Mrutunjay Rath and special thanks were given to Ministry of I&B, Govt of India, Cultural department of Odisha, Commissionerate Police, Orissa POST, Dharitri and Odisha Live.
