BDA initiates rock band competition

BUBANESHWAR:  Are you a rock music enthusiast itching to showcase your talent? Wait no more as Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) invites rock bands to compete in the upcoming .FEST event at IDCO Exhibition Ground, Unit-3.

Jointly orgainsed by the BDA and Odisha Tourism ‘BHUBANESWAR BANDWIDTH-CITY ROCK BAND COMPETITION’ is one of its kind event inviting rock bands from all colleges and schools within the city. Interested artist groups can download the form from the official website of BDA. Last date for submission of forms is December 30 by 5:00 PM.

Detailing about the contest, Tapaswini Swain, event’s coordinator said, “We have received about 15-20 applications till now and the numbers may increase with the deadline fast approaching.”

“Scrutiny of participating bands would commence from December 3 at KIIT Auditorium and they will be judged by a 4-member panel. After preliminary scrutiny, the top three bands will be selected from category ‘A’ (School Bands) and four other bands will be selected under category ‘B’ (Non-school Bands),” she added.

She also mentioned that 7 bands will be finalised that will compete in front of 15-20 thousand people at .FEST. The top three bands under the category ‘A’ will receive Rs 1 Lakh, Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 as first second and third prize respectively. The top two bands under category ‘B’ will bag Rs 1.5 lakh, Rs 50,000  respectively while third and fourth place finishers would take home Rs 25,000 each.

“This initiative has been taken to promote and encourage budding talents of the city to showcase their musical skills as an orchestra in the genre of rock band,” Swain said.
