BDO, 2 techies held for funds misuse

Cuttack: Vigilance sleuths Saturday arrested a block development officer (BDO), an assistant executive engineer and a former assistant engineer for alleged financial irregularities to the tune of Rs 42 lakh in rural road project in Sundargarh district.
The accused officials – Lathikata BDO Purnachandra Bhoi, assistant executive engineer Raj Kishore Sahu and former assistant engineer Buddheswar Sahu – were later produced in Sundargarh special vigilance court. The trio was sent to jail after the court turned down their bail applications, said vigilance cell SP M Radhakrishna.
According to sources, NSPCL power plant had sanctioned a sum of `1.32 crore for construction of roads in Garjan village of Lathikata block in Sundargarh district in 2016-17. However, the officials executed the project without floating a tender for it and allegedly embezzled `42 lakh.
Later, a complaint was lodged with the vigilance cell alleging inferior works and misappropriation of the funds. Following the allegations, Cuttack vigilance cell began an investigation into the matter.
During the investigation, the vigilance officials found concrete evidences against the trio, carried out simultaneous raids at their houses and arrested them.
