Sundargarh: Vigilance officials arrested Prasant Kumar Rout, BDO of Bisra block of Sundargarh district, while he was receiving a bribe of Rs 1 lakh Tuesday.
Rout was produced in the Rourkela Vigilance Court. According to the Vigilance sources, the files of four projects of Jhirpani panchayat funded by the 14th Finance Commission were pending at the block office. The BDO had held up the files and wanted Rs 1 lakh from panchayat executive officer Prashant Jena to clear the files.
However, Jena had alerted the Vigilance. Following an instruction from Sambalpur Vigilance SP Swarup Parida, a special squad was formed. The team laid a trap and caught the BDO red-handed with chemical-laced notes given by the PEO.
