Ghasipura: Even as school and college education in the state is hampered by shortage of teachers, Anandapur Regional Training College, a cradle of teachers’ training, has remained confined to a small space due to unavailability land in nearby areas. Inadequate infrastructure has come in the way of the institution’s expansion move, thanks to government apathy.
Established in 1982, the BEd training college got official recognition in November, 1992. Sadly, 34 years after its establishment, the premier teachers’ training institution has not seen any remarkable development. The institution has remained confined to only three rooms built on 23 decimal of land.
According to sources, years ago, the government had provided six acres and 58 decimal of land for the development of required infrastructure in the college. But the land was later reclaimed by the government when then principal failed to utilise the land over years.
The people of peripheral villages had several times appealed to the district administration to return the land to the college, but no step has been taken in this direction.
Later, Anandapur tehsildar earmarked a patch of three acres of land at Fakirpur mouza to shift the training college, but the college authorities have not yet applied for land pattas, it was learnt.
On the other hand, people of Fakirpur alleged that the land is being encroached upon by others.
Meanwhile, the National Council of Teachers’ Education (NCTE) has approved 50 more seats to the institution, taking its total strength to 100.
But the major problem plaguing the institution is insufficient infrastructure.
Now, it is not possible for the college authorities to adjust arrangement of training and accommodation for 50 more students in a confined space, it was learnt.
For its infrastructure development, the college needs to be shifted to another place, but the villagers have opposed this. Moreover, the administration has been sitting idle without taking any decisive step for future of the institution. PNN
