Bhawanipatna school declared ‘Containment Zone’ as 32 students test positive for COVID-19

Bhawanipatna: Worrying signs indeed. It seems that the COVID-19 virus is targeting educational institutions. The Pragati Science Higher Secondary School, a private institution here reported 32 positive COVID-19 cases Tuesday. As a precautionary measure, the district administration has declared the school as ‘Containment Zone’.

Confirming this development, chief district medical officer (CDMO) of Kalahandi, Dr Pratap Kumar Behera said that the infected students were undergoing isolation at the school hostel. Their test reports which came Monday were positive for COVID-19. Entry of outsiders to the school campus has been restricted.

Sources said Tuesday that a team of healthcare officials will visit the campus to collect swab samples of other students as a precautionary measure.

Notably, Kalahandi district Monday reported 50 fresh cases of COVID-19. Apart from the 32 cases from the private institution, Bhawanipatna reported four cases, Kesinga, Narla, Dharmagarh and Junagarh each reported three and Parla reported two persons who tested positive for COVID-19.
