Bhubaneswar: A man was sentenced to one year in prison for stealing five mobile phones and a motorcycle from a shop in Bhubaneswar, less than three weeks after the incident.
Sunil Sethy was found guilty of stealing the items from a shop in the Tankapani Road area.
Judge Somesh Somyajit Panda convicted Sethy after examining nine witnesses and 15 exhibits and documents, including CCTV footage.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him, the government counsel said.
The case was registered at Badagada police station on August 8, following a complaint by Abinash Pritam Nayak, the owner of the shop.
Police subsequently arrested Sethy, who was produced before the court August 9.
The charge sheet was filed within five days, followed by a focused prosecution and an expeditious trial that culminated in the conviction within 18 days of the FIR being registered.
