Bijepur by-poll: BJP worker attacked in pre-poll violence, hospitalised

Bijepur: In an incident of pre-poll violence in Bijepur where the by-poll is scheduled to be held October 21, some unidentified miscreants brutally attacked a BJP worker at Kanapali Chhak here Friday night.

The injured saffron worker has been identified as Manoranjan Meher, a resident of Bijepur in Bargarh district. Political vendetta is said to be the reason behind the attack.

According to sources, it was about 8pm when Meher was on his way home from Sohela on his motor cycle with his friend riding pillion. They were stopped by some miscreants at Kanapali Chhak where they were waiting for Meher. Before they could guess the motive of the miscreants, they started attacking them with sharp weapons.

Meher, who sustained injuries in his chest and left hand, was immediately rushed to Bijepur community health centre (CHC). Later he was shifted to Bargarh district headquarters hospital (DHH) for better treatment.

Immediately after the attack, district unit of BJP came up with a demand for arrest of all the miscreants involved in the attack.

Notably, the fresh attack on Meher is the second one as some miscreants opened fire at his residence January 7, 2018 last year during Bijepur by-poll.
