Cuttack, Jan 13: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik along with his elder brother Prem Patnaik Tuesday dedicated Anand Bhawan, the birth place of former Chief Minister Biju Patnaik, here to the people of Orissa.
The Chief Minister along with Prem dedicated the estate after signing the documents at the district collector’s office here in presence of the sub-registrar. Speaking on the occasion, the CM said the birthplace of his father would be used as a museum, library and a place of learning. “I feel extremely happy after dedicating the birthplace of my father to the people of the state,” said Prem Patnaik.
Sources said the state government has decided to convert Anand Bhawan into a tourist place and a museum.
Efforts are on to officially declare this place as a museum on the birth anniversary of Biju Patnaik March 5.
Former Chief Minister of Orissa and a stalwart of state politics, Biju Patnaik was born at Anand Bhawan March 5, 1916. He had spent his childhood days along with his father Laxminarayan Patnaik and mother Ashalata Devi. Later, he completed his school and college education while staying here. However, he left Anand Bhawan and kept it in charge of a caretaker after the death of his parents and stayed in Bhubaneswar after becoming the Chief Minister and later a Union minister.
