Bhubaneswar: An 18-foot tall bronze statue of former chief minister Biju Patnaik was installed at Biju Patnaik International Airport here Tuesday. It will be officially unveiled March 5 by Chief minister Naveen Patnaik.
Beautification work on and around the statue is to begin soon, according to the BPIA authorities.
The plan is to build an artificial fountain and to do landscaping work around the statue. The work is expected to be finished in a few months.
The proposal to install the statue was given in 2014 and it took about two years to finish work on the project. The bronze statue cost Rs 19 lakh.
Four days ago a team from the culture department visited the site and the statue was finally installed in the night February 2.
Six other statues are similarly awaiting installation with the culture department.
Culture department director Ranjit Mohanty refused to comment on the installation of these statues.
According to sources, the department has floated tender for the construction of 12 more statues even as it has several pending installation.
