Mumbai: Hindi film director Sajid Khan started his career as a host but he has worked as a script writer, TV show presenter and even an actor. He was born 23 November 1971.
Despite showing his talent in so many areas, somewhere Sajid had a desire to see the world from behind the camera. This passion in him drove him towards becoming a director.
Sajid started his directorial career with the movie Darna Zaroori Hai (2006). The film certainly did reasonably well but Sajid’s directorial prowess earned him some plaudits. He then directed several films including Hey Baby, Housefull, Housefull 2, Himmatwala and Humshakals. While Hey Baby and Housefull franchises were appreciated by fans, the rest of their films were received very well and fell flat at the box office.
With a few exceptions here and there, most of Sajid’s films either flopped or performed averagely at the box office. But one thing we have to admit is that Sajid’s enthusiasm was not affected even after consecutive flops and he has been continuing with the same vigil.
There was a time when for some of his films, people called him lewd and bad-tempered, but Sajid still did not budge and lived his dream.
Sajid also did dance shows with his sister choreographer Farah Khan before starting direction. After their father’s death, Fara was handed down a lot of responsibilities. She started teaching dance in a college and Sajid also helped her in this.
In October 2018, Sajid was accused of sexual harassment by several female colleagues such as Mandana Karimi, Saloni Chopra, Rachel White, Simran Suri and journalist Karishma Upadhyay through the ‘Me Too’ Movement in India. He was heavily criticised by actors such as Akshay Kumar and Bipasha Basu after which he stepped down from the directorship of Housefull 4. Sajid was eventually replaced by Farhad Samji, who co-directed Housefull 3 and Housefull 4.
