Bhubaneswar: A day after completion of elections in the state, both ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Tuesday claimed that they would definitely get the magic number (74) and form government in the state. There are 147 Assembly 21 Lok Sabha seats in the state.
Speaking to reporters here, BJD spokesperson Samir Das said, “We will win over 115 Assembly seats and definitely form the government. We will also secure 18 Lok Sabha seats.”
The ruling party has claimed to get these numbers for its pro-poor schemes including KALIA, governance and brand Naveen.
BJP leader Prithviraj Harichandan too claimed that his party has done extremely well in the elections and will come to power.
“We will win more than 100 MLA seats and over 16 Lok Sabha seats in this election. The BJP will provide a stable government to the people of the state,” he said.
The saffron party said the Modi undercurrent, organisational strength of the party and anti-incumbency factor will yield the result.
However, the state Congress under the leadership of Niranjan Patnaik did not even feel confident to touch the magic number required to form government in the state.
“We are expecting to touch the magic number. But I am not confident to say that we will cross the number. However, the party will do far better than the result of 2014 elections,” Patnaik said.
In 2014, the ruling BJD had grabbed 117 Assembly seats and 20 MP seats while BJP had won 10 MLA and one MP seat and Congress 16 Assembly seats.
