Bhubaneswar: Retracing its allegation, the state BJP Sunday alleged that the ruling BJD and the Congress have an unholy nexus against the Centre.
Addressing a press conference here, BJP leader and Padampur MLA Pradeep Purohit alleged that the Congress MLAs shielded the Naveen Patnaik-led BJD government during the monsoon session of the Assembly. The two parties had joined hands in 2009.
The Congress MLAs intentionally raised the issue of oil price hike on the last day of the monsoon session in the Assembly to save the government. Due to this tactic, Bomikhal overbridge collapse issue could not be debated in the House,” Purohit said.
Earlier, the Business Advisory Committee of the House led by leader of the Opposition Narasingha Mishra decided to discuss the issue. However, the Congress members raised the oil price hike issue, he said.
“We are not opposing the protest on fuel price hike which was raised by the Congress. But, the people of this state were eagerly waiting to listen to the answers of the CM on the Bomikhal issue,” the BJP leader said, adding, “After debating on the overbridge collapse issue, they could have raised the issue.”
However, government chief whip Amar Sathpathy said, “The BJP is unnecessarily blaming the government as it has no issue to raise in the House. As far as over bridge collapse case is concerned, the BJD has done everything on its part.”
Opposition chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati said that the BJP is trying to save Union minister Dharmendra Pradhan. “The rising prices of petrol and diesel are making common people’s life difficult. When we raised the issue in the Assembly, they became annoyed,” he said.
