New Delhi: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) has now planned to intensify their war over the controversial issue of Mahanadi as the party has now planned to move another adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha Tuesday to evoke a wider debate on the issue.
The party Monday moved an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha seeking debate on the Mahanadi issue, however the Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan dismissed the plea. The party has now planned to again move the adjournment motion seeking debate on the issue in the Lok Sabha Tuesday.
According to sources in the party, the BJD is likely to intensify their war over Mahanadi in the Parliament in the upcoming days. It has also planned to hold a protest Wednesday outside the Parliament House near Mahatma Gandhi statue over the issue to protest against not hearing of the state grievances on the issue.
It is likely that in the coming days, the partymen may raise the issue aggressively in the Lower House. It is also anticipated that the issue could also be raised by the BJD parliamentarians during the Question Hour and the Zero Hour of the Lok Sabha.
The party had been demanding an early constitution of a Tribunal for resolving the Mahanadi issue and asking the Chattisgarh government to stop construction works on the catchment areas on Mahanadi. The party has also asked the Centre repeatedly to intervene and ask the Chattisgarh government to stop works on the Mahanadi river banks.
