Bhubaneswar: A seven-member delegation of BJD MLAs led by senior leader Amar Prasad Satpathy Monday met the protesting members of Nabanirman Krushak Sangathan (NKS) at Lower PMG here and requested to withdraw their agitation.
“We have requested the agitating farmers to withdraw their strike. Some of their demands have been fulfilled and others will be fulfilled in the coming days,” Satpathy said after meeting the farmers.
However, the farmers’ outfit demands fulfillment of all of their demands. “The government must admit the suicide of farmers due to crop loss and drought, and provide pension to peasants,” said convener of NKS Akshaya Kumar.
Notably, the farmers’ body has been holding demonstration at the Lower PMG Square here since February 18 to press for implementation of pension scheme for farmers, payment of compensation to the next kin of farmers, who had committed suicide, enhancement of minimum support price (MSP) and others.
