stir in state against
the BJD govt

Bhubaneswar:  The BJP Women’s Cell Sunday threatened to hold a series of protests and agitations across the state to attack the BJD-led state government for its alleged failure to tackle women’s safety issues.

The party’s women wing chief in the state Pravati Parida Sunday informed the media here about their plan. Fuming over the recent acquittals of the accused in the Pipli gangrape and murder case and the rise in crime against women in the state, Parida said her party is now all set to embark on its agitation plan.

She said, “We plan to hold demonstrations in front of the houses of BJD MLAs to mark our protest. We will spearhead the movement christened as ‘Jawab Maguchi Odisha’. All members of the party’s women wing will be involved in this mass movement.”

Parida said that the agitation would kick off Monday, when the party volunteers would collect bangles from across the state and send them to Naveen Nivas to press for their demands and register their protest on the issue of women’s safety in the state.

The party’s women wing also plan to create awareness among the electorate in the state against the atrocities against women starting with sand art, while prayer meetings will also be organised at presiding temples of all Assembly constituencies January 15. It will be followed by protest meetings and demonstrations before the MLAs’ residences in the coming days.

The ruling party, meanwhile, castigated the BJP for their rhetoric tactics. BJD spokesperson Prasanta Nanda said, “The BJP should think about the welfare of the people of the state instead of politicising the issues. They are hardly left with any issues and, hence, are relying and digging up matters from the past.”
