Puri: Orissa Sahitya Akademi has decided to proof-read mistakes spotted in the third edition of Atibadi Jagannath Das’s celebrated treatise Srimad Bhagabat by taking references from the first edition of the Purana.
Sahitya Akademi sources said a four-member panel comprising Gaurang Charan Das, Sarat Chandra Ratha, Debendra Kumar Das and Surendra Kumar Mishra will rectify the bloomers found in the third edition of Srimad Bhagabat by April 28.
The Sahitya Akademi will reprint the revised versions of the third edition after making appropriate changes, expert panel sources said.
A decision in this regard was taken at a high-level meeting of the Sahitya Akademi recently.
The Akademi had printed the first edition of Bhagabat in 1989-93 to popularise the classical text, according to sources.
Its low cost and attractive layout had become popular among Oriya book lovers.
The second edition was printed in 2006. However, the compilation of the 12 volumes of Srimad Bhagabat in 2013 was made available to all Bhagabat Tungis by the state culture department.
Several howlers were spotted in the third volume of the Scripture much to the chagrin of senior citizens who have urged Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to stop the sale and distribution of the controversial edition.
Chakradhar Mahapatra of Jagamara in Bhubaneswar wrote on the issue to Puri collector and a copy of the letter was also sent to the Satlahadi Mutt, where the Atibadi poet authored the scripture.
Subsequently, Orissa Sahitya Akademi had suspended printing of the third edition of Srimad Bhagbat and appointed a four-member expert panel to look into the issue.
