BMC gets citizens’ support to open water kiosks

Bhubaneswar: With the rising mercury level after severe loss to the Capital city’s green cover, the ‘Jal Seva Sibirs’ (water kiosks) by stakeholders under the leadership of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) are coming up in good numbers. While 53 centres have been opened across the city till Wednesday, it would cross 100 within two days, said sources.

Women self-help groups (SHGs), social service organisations, traders’ associations, transporters’ bodies, senior citizens’ associations and differentially-abled people and their organisations are coming forward to open water kiosks for which BMC provides drinking water through its tankers on a daily basis.

While there is a target to open 200 `Jal Seva Sibirs’, the civic body has decided to provide a financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to the kiosks which were damaged during the severe cyclonic storm Fani May 3.

Control room gets 1,521 plaints

Meanwhile, the multi-agency control room at BMC has received 1,521 complaints (cumulative) till 8.30 pm Wednesday. A majority of complaints pertains to tree cutting and street light issues. The initiative by the BMC to distribute food packets to manual labourers touched 3,300 (cumulative) till Wednesday. It started with 300 May 11.
