Bhubaneswar: Revenue collections from property tax and parking fees by the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) have declined over the past two financial years, according to official data.
The BMC collected Rs 7.55 crore in property tax during the 2024-25 financial year, which fell to Rs 6.85 crore in 2025-26. In the current fi nancial year (2026- 27), property tax collections stood at around Rs 3.50 crore as of the end of June.
Parking fee collections also registered a decline. The civic body earned Rs 1.96 crore from parking charges in 2024-25, but the revenue dropped to Rs 1.54 crore in 2025-26.
Revenue from other sources also witnessed a significant drop.
BMC collected Rs 57.82 crore under other revenue heads in 2024-25, compared with Rs 11.69 crore in 2025-26.
According to BMC officials, revenue collections from both parking fees and other sources have remained below expectations during the first quarter of the current financial year, ending in June.
The civic body is monitoring the trend as it seeks to improve revenue generation in the coming months.
While revenue from parking and some other sources has declined, BMC has recorded strong growth in collections from holding tax, advertisements and building plan approvals.
BMC collected Rs 100.97 crore in holding tax during the 2024-25 fi nancial year, which increased to Rs 118.87 crore in 2025-26.
A senior BMC official said holding tax collections had already crossed Rs 61 crore by the end of June in the current fi nancial year.
Revenue from hoardings and advertisements also rose, increasing from Rs 16.70 crore in 2024-25 to Rs 22.04 crore in 2025- 26.
Deputy Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mohanty said revenue from building plan approvals stood at Rs 26.71 crore in 2025-26 and is expected to exceed `30 crore this year.
According to Mohanty, BMC’s total revenue collection increased from Rs 223.46 crore in 2024-25 to Rs 251.30 crore in 2025- 26.
The civic body has set a target of surpassing Rs 300 crore in total revenue during the current fi nancial year.
