Bhubaneswar: Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation Saturday presented a draft budget plan worth Rs 430.17 crore for the financial year 2018-19 in the special session of the civic body as against previous year’s budget of Rs 394.59 crore.
The budget has been prepared giving utmost importance and care to overall development of all the sectors, including the wards in sub-urban areas, BMC commissioner Krishan Kumar and Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena said.
The BMC has earmarked a sum of Rs 26.57 crore to achieve its target of 100 per cent LED street lighting. A sum of Rs 67.80 crore has been earmarked to undertake sanitation management projects in the area under the BMC’s jurisdiction.
A sum of `3 crore has been allocated for focusing stopping the street dog menace. The major part of this amount will be spent on sterilizing the street dogs.
The draft budget has allocated a sum of Rs 11.77 crore for construction and maintenance of public, hybrid and community toilets. Similarly, a sum of Rs 30 crore has been earmarked for improving the drainage system in the area under the civic body’s jurisdiction, while Rs 47.94 crore has been earmarked to convert mud roads into concrete roads. The civic body also plans to spend Rs 2.2 crore and Rs 1 crore for upkeep of slaughter houses and maintenance as well as repair of parks, nurseries and gardens respectively.
This apart, the emphasis of the draft budget is on overall development of slums and sub-urban wards like Bhagbanpur, Subudhipur, Pandara etc.
Chairman of the BMC Finance Standing Committee Nijamuddin presented the draft budget on behalf of the corporation.
The final budget proposals will be presented after taking suggestions from the corporators. It is expected to be placed before the corporators for approval in a month’s time, he said.
Those who attended Saturday’s BMC special session included deputy mayor K Shanti, MLA Priyadarshi Mishra and corporators.
