Bhubaneswar, June 9: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) will undertake special drives to make the city ready for the Asian Athletic Meet beginning July 6.
The civic body in a recent meeting held under the chairmanship of BMC Commissioner Krishan Kumar has emphasised on making the city cleaner.
The civic body has classified its three zones into 12 sub-zones which would be headed by its 12 senior officers. The Smart City and Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) officers will also be the in-charge of these areas.
The officers will make field visits under their jurisdiction for ensuring better sanitation, removal of encroachment and provision of civic amenities. The officers have been asked to submit daily inspection reports to the authorities with suggestive measures. A team of BMC officials has been assigned with the task of special ward visits and are making the inspection tours for last two weeks.
Around 25 officers from various branches of BMC are assigned with the task of ward visits regularly and submitting reports in a prescribed format.
Recently, the civic body has also started taking action against dumping of construction and demolition debris in public places. Massive awareness campaign has also started to take action against the erring entities.
This apart, the BDA has taken up the task of making the medians green by plantation drives through the help of horticulture department. PNN
