Keonjhar: Police recovered the bodies of a couple from a house in Rungta Colony under Bamebari police limits in Keonjhar district Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Sujit Hembram and his wife Berunichand Hembram. Sujit was an engineer working at Jajanga iron ore mine.
Sujits’s body was found lying on the floor while that of his wife was found on the bed. The couple has three children, but they were not at home.
Police seized the bodies and started an investigation. Given the circumstantial evidence, the two were suspected to have assaulted each other, leading to their deaths.
An iron chain was found in a hand of Sujit and the chain was struck around the neck of his wife. Police suspected that Sujit might have tried to strangulate his wife with the iron chain when the latter probably retaliated by striking him with an iron rod on his head.
Police registered a case and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
