Pipili: Panic gripped the residents after a suitcase with livewire was found near railway track in Birapursottampur railway gate in Pipili Friday morning, sparking bomb scare in the locality. As a result, train service on the route had to be halted for a while.
Sources said some locals spotted the suitcase containing electric wires and plastic container on the railway track and immediately informed the Railway Police Force (RPF). Suspecting bomb inside the suitcase, railway authorities concerned stopped train service on the route. As a result, five trains were halted at different places.
“Puri-Okha Express and Talcher-Puri MEMU train were halted near Birpurusottampur while Puri-Angul train was stopped near Delang station. Puri-New Delhi Nilachal Express and another train were halted near Sakhigopal,” said an official.
Later, the railway police along with security officials and a dog squad reached the spot to take stock of the situation. After inspection, the officials ruled out any explosive items inside the suitcase and seized it. Following this, the railway authorities resumed the train service.
According to sources, as many as five trains were stopped in the station keeping utmost safety of lives and property in view. Later they were allowed to resume their journeys after 12.30 PM.
