Jharsuguda/Jagatsinghpur: Security was tightened at the district courts in Jharsuguda and Jagatsinghpur Friday after anonymous emails threatened to blow up the court complexes, prompting evacuations and extensive search operations.

In Jharsuguda, the threat email sent to the official email account of the district judge claimed gas bombs would be detonated at 1:15 p.m. in the judge’s office, chambers and other parts of the court complex. The Jharsuguda District Bar Association asked lawyers, court staff and visitors to immediately vacate the premises, sources said.

Police, bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs and special teams launched search operations, while cyber experts began tracing the source of the emails. No explosive materials were found during the initial searches, souces added.

Police said the threats are being treated seriously and appealed to the public not to panic as the investigation continues.
