Book week for school children

Bhubaneswar, July 5: In a bid to encourage students to inculcate a habit of reading books, DAV Public School Unit-VIII organised an event titled ‘Book Week,’ Wednesday. The book week will continue till July 7. The students will take part in different competitions, including book reviews, poetry writing, Sanskrit phrase chanting, etc. A workshop has also been organised, where experts are imparting training on poetry composition in different languages. “A competition was also organised to encourage the students towards book reading in various languages like Hindi, English, Oriya Sanskrit and others,” said
Principal Bhagyabati Nayak. “Reading books help the students to a great extent. It increases their horizon of knowledge and helps them in exploring and understanding human beings,” she added. A book fair was also organised on the occasion. Several publishers had brought books for the students. “In the book week, we have displayed several books for the students. Students can buy and read different story books,” said Mamata Banerjee, the co-ordinator of the program. Some of the experts like Gopabranjan Mishra, professor of Utkal University, storyteller and educationist Purnachandra Das took part in the workshop. They encouraged students to indulge in reading.
