Purusottampur: A Class IX minor boy fractured an arm after he was allegedly kicked by his teacher at Narasing Dash High School here in Ganjam district. The boy, identified as Shankar Behera, was admitted to a local hospital. The accused teacher was identified as Bhaskar Patra.
Sources said the incident occurred in the absence of the school PET. Shankar said Bhaskar took the students for PE class and later kicked Shankar to the ground, during which Shankar broke his arm.
Bhaskar, the teacher, has however denied kicking the student and said Shankar was creating disturbance during the PE period. Bhaskar added that he warned Shankar to behave properly and told him to stand in line during which he “accidentally” kicked the student.
“I had no intention of kicking him. I took him to a local hospital and later sent him home after treatment,” Bhaskar said. Irate over the incident, parents and relatives of Shankar reached the school and demanded action against the teacher.
Police registered a case based on a complaint by the boy’s father and detained Bhaskar in this regard.
