BHUBANESWAR: To mark the occasion of International Women’s Day, Centre for Youth and Social Development (CYSD) in collaboration with Azad Foundation, inaugurated a women empowerment drive “Women on Wheels” at CYSD Premises where Satyajit Mohanty, Commissioner, Bhubaneswar Police Commissionerate, flagged off the drive here Friday.
Through ‘Women on Wheels’ programme, CYSD will train 35 girls, women and transgender and link them with employment opportunities. The programme would help the disadvantaged girls and women come out of veil and take control over the resources as well as break the gender stereotypes of the male dominated commute system.
Encouraging the mass, Jagadananada, Mentor & Co-Founder, CYSD said, “This women empowerment drive is going to be a game changing discipline drive for us where women of smart city are going to be self employed and self dependant.”
Speaking on the occasion, Satyajit Mohanty, Commissioner, Bhubaneswar Police Commissionerate, said, “I congratulate the women present here on the occasion of International Women’s Day. The programme is going to bring opportunity of being self dependant for women desiring to be a part of this. The police are also going to take different measures for the women drivers like providing Identity Cards, their registration and police helpline number as part of their safety which is our prime responsibility.”
Apart from this a panel discussion was held on the theme of ‘Safety of Women in Public Spaces in Bhubaneswar and Safe Commute System for Women’ where eminent persons like Bijay Kumar Patnaik, Former Odisha Chief Secretary, Bijay Kumar Sahoo, DCP (traffic), Sarojini Brahma, Gender Specialist, Smart City Bhubaneswar, Lalila Mishal, Member, NAWO and Bisakha Bhanja, Regional Manager for the Water Aid India East office enlightened the mass.
