Bhubaneswar, July 25: Radio listeners in the city observed the National Broadcasting Day in an event held at IDCOL Auditorium here, Tuesday. They marked 90 years of radio broadcasting in India. Eminent personalities from the world of radio graced the event with their presence. Encouraging people to listen to radio, former director of AIR Shantanu Rath said, “Radio has its own charm. Listeners get attracted to the voice of the anchor. This is why people still remember the voice and style of presentations by eminent radio personalities. Radio is still surviving because of its vast reach. During emergency, it is the lifeline. We should encourage more people to listen to radio.”
“Being a part of the radio world, I have been trying to promote radio among youngsters. They can keep radio alive. Various radio workshops are organised in various parts of the state, so that youngsters take interest in it,” Subrat Kumar

felicitated for Rjing, Santosh Kumar Sahoo got an award for news reading. Debasis Rout was awarded for debate, Alka Mohapatra for essay writing, Saiswari Patra for song, Kamalakanta Lenka for dance, Sangram Tripathy for one-act-play and Sarthak Pradhan for quiz. They were the winners of the college competitions. Alisha Rout won the prize for essay writing, Saswati Narayani Acharya for song, Bhaswat Das for painting, Shrian Mohanty for Dance, Abhisekh Jena for OneAct-Play and Priyanshu Samantray for quiz. They were the winners of school contests. Trustee of the organisation, Smruti said, “These competitions will encourage students to show their talent as well as increase their interest in radio.
