Bhubaneswar: The quick action team (QAT) of the state police Thursday busted a brown sugar racket by catching three peddlers while selling the contraband here. The three were Krushna Chandra Nath of Mancheswar area, Chiitaranjan Routray of Palasuni chhak area and Bijay Behera of Munda basti.
Police seized 20gm brown sugar, Rs 1.5lakh in cash, three bikes and a sharp weapon from the three. Chitta and his two accomplices were waiting for customers at Infocity area and Palasuni chhak here when they were arrested.
Chitta, a professional brown sugar peddler, would get the contraband from Kolkata and Balasore and then sell it here. He had been arrested in the past too on this count and had served jail term.
His brother Hadia had been arrested recently in connection with a murder.
