Bhubaneswar: The state unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Friday termed the Union Budget of 2019-2020 as ‘historic’ and ‘pro-people’ and lauded the NDA government at the Centre for the special measures taken to ensure the welfare of the middle class.
Speaking to the media in the state capital, the state president of the BJP Basant Panda said, “The middle class in the country constitutes an appreciable quantum of the population. The Budget has taken special measures to take care of that segment by exempting the middle class whose income is below Rs 5 lakh per annum.”
He also said the present Budget was crafted to suit the needs of the people of the country and is historic in nature. It said, “It is good to see that crores of farmers and their interests have been taken care of. The Centre has now decided to assist them financially which is a welcome step.”
The state leadership claimed that the NDA government at the Centre has taken special care of the unorganized sector as well. He said, “The BJP government has taken special care of the people working in the unorganized sector by ensuring their right to healthcare and other amenities.”
When talked about the tirade of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) President Niranjan Patnaik who broadcasted his views against the budget provisions, Panda said, “The Congress has ruled in the state for several decades and has cheated the people and that is why they were rooted out in 2014. BJP, on the other hand, has been taking care of the people’s interests from the very first year of its regime.”
Castigating the views that the Centre’s decision to give financial aid to the farmers, has been inspired by Odisha’s Kalia scheme, the state unit chief said, “We did not copy any ideas. We have made budgetary provisions for the farmers to ensure their welfare.”
