Bhubaneswar: In an alleged incident of theft, miscreants broke into the official residence of a government servant in Unit-VI area of Bhubaneswar, a source said Monday.

The incident took place Sunday night at the residence of Pramod Panda who is currently posted as an Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in Odisha Assembly.

According to the source, unidentified thieves stole gold ornaments, a motorcycle, a TV and other articles worth Rs12 lakh from Panda’s house.

Panda along with his family had gone to Puri Sunday. Upon their return at around 2am (Monday),  they found that the locks of the main gate and grille were broken.

Panda had reportedly asked some men, who used to sit and chit-chat near his residence on a regular basis, to avoid doing that.

The Commissionerate Police have detained some youths from a nearby slum for questioning regarding the incident.
