Tensa: A large cache of arms, ammunition and other Maoist-related materials was recovered from a buried dump in the Silkuta forest under K Balang police station in Sundaragada district Monday. The recovery was made during a joint search operation by Raurkela and Jharkhand police after intelligence inputs indicated that Maoist materials had been concealed underground in the forest.
Raurkela SP Nitesh Wadhwani confirmed the recovery in a press release. A report on the operation also said the cache was concealed in the forest for several years. The seized items included 20 rounds of ammunition, a carbine, 15 detonators, two walkie-talkies, a signalling device, a digital multimeter and a battery charger, police said.
The recovery also included other communication and Maoist camp-related equipment. Acting on the intelligence input, security personnel conducted searches at several locations in the Silkuta forest and unearthed the materials buried underground.
The operation is being seen as a significant recovery in the ongoing efforts by security forces to trace and dismantle concealed Maoist caches in the Sundaragada-Raurkela region. Further searches in the area are likely, officials said.
