Bhubaneswar, April 17: Health and family welfare minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak Friday said the death of three women after Cesarean section deliveries at VSS Institute of Medical Science and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla in Sambalpur are not due to side effects of medicines.
“The death of three women after delivering children at VIMSAR was not due to side-effects of medicines,” Nayak said after the Directorate of Medical Education and Training (DMET) submitted its probe report on the issue to the state government.
The minister said the hospital authorities were asked to explain the reason for not conducting post-mortems of the three deceased women.
The VIMSAR authorities were also directed to probe further into the deaths, an official release said.
Health secretary Arti Ahuja said the high-level committee headed by B C Das, director of DMET, has submitted its probe report.
The committee had visited the VIMSAR and questioned the doctors and other staff early this week.
The three women had died after five hours of their operation at the hospital April 10 leading to allegations that the deaths were caused due to negligence on the part of the attending doctors.
After a hue and cry over the deaths, the health minister had announced an inquiry by an expert committee last Saturday.
