Bhubaneswar: The protest by online cab and auto rickshaw drivers turned violent Wednesday in Bhubaneswar’s Lower PMG and Master Canteen area.
According to reports, on the third day of the protest, demonstrators allegedly “pelted stones” at parked Ama Buses and damaged their windshields and window glass during a massive demonstration. Police reportedly resorted to a “lathi charge” to disperse the protesters and bring the situation under control.

The sequence of events leading to the alleged “stone pelting” and “police action” was not immediately clear.

Drivers associated with Ola, Uber and Rapido are reportedly demanding reforms in the fare structure, including higher per-km rates, cancellation charges, compensation for passenger waiting time and increased fares during night hours. They also sought other measures to improve their earnings.
Further details are awaited.
