Capital hosts 41st edition of ‘Barsha’

BHUBANESWAR: The 41st edition of ‘Barsha’ organised by Chinta O Chetna was inaugurated at Rabindra Mandap here Tuesday.

The cultural event was attended by Swami Ramnarayan Baba, Samita Bal, President, KIIT and KIIS, Sahadeb Sahoo, Mahendra Gupta MD, Gupta Cables, Srikant Mishra and State Secretary of Chinta O Chetana Surendra Das.

The inaugural programme of the evening was a dance recital based on Rain performed by eminent Odissi dancer Sujata Mahapatra. Interacting with Orissa POST, she said, “Through my dance, I will try to showcase how the arrival of rain makes the world a happier place and how the excessive rain can destroy our existence itself. I am quite excited to perform today before the dance lovers of the city.” The dance recital is based on poet Kalidas’ ‘Rutu Sanhar’.

On this occasion, in association with Ministry of I & B, Govt of India, the Chinta O Chetana National award 2019 was conferred on Suchismita Mantry for culture, Satyabrata Mohanty for Hospitality, Adyasha Das for music, Col Debdutta Swain for Bravery, Akshay Kumar Patra for tourism and culture, Col Dayanidhi Tanty for Bravery, Mahendra Kumar Gupta for Industry, Nazia Alam for music, Sasmita Tripathy for education, Shrabani Mitra for Odissi, Prahllad Sahoo for Pala Gayan, Kishore Chandra Hota for Traffic Police service(Dancing), K Krishnan, K Mohan, Satish Raghban and P Krishnan for Hospitality.

It may be noted that Chinta o Chetana is a premier socio-cultural organisation of the state founded by Dr. Harekrushna Mahtab in 1980. Currently, it is headed by Damodar Rout as its national chair-person, Debi Prasad Mishra as chair-person, Festival Committee, Achyuta Samanta, President and Surendra Das, Secretary General.

Chinta O Chetana is not only dedicated for cultural upliftment but also committed for the upliftment of socially, economically and educationally downtrodden community. Chinta O Chetana also conducts operations of rescue and relief at the time of disasters.

Eminent personalities from different fields are closely associated with  Chinta O Chetana and dedicated to the cause of socio-cultural development of the people in every corner of the country.

Apart from its emphasis on cultural activities, as a means of strengthening national unity, the organisation lays stress on social service and economic development as part of the wholesome development of the people wherever it works.
