Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: The state government is considering formation of a Metropolitan Planning Committee (MPC) to ensure the overall development of the capital city.
The Hyderabad based Administrative Staff College of India (ASCI) has been asked to prepare the blueprint of the proposed committee that will be set up for areas under the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and the surrounding localities.
“The Hyderabad ASCI has been assigned the task. It has been asked to make a detail study and a report within six months,” said BDA vice-chairman Krishan Kumar.
Planning proposals from ward level under municipalities and municipality corporations will be submitted to MPC, which will take the final decision, sources said.
“The committee will help in proper utilisation of land and development of the city’s infrastructure,” said a senior BDA official.
The 74th constitution amendment allows the formation of an MPC for cities where the population is more than 10 lakh. The state government has decided to set up a MPC for Bhubaneswar as the population of the temple city is around 10 lakh and is increasing gradually, sources said.
