Cuttack: A day after a man was bludgeoned to death in the city and his body was buried clandestinely at Badhipadia in Choudwar, police cracked the murder case with the arrest of six people Friday.
Hiramani Patra (32) alias Bapi was allegedly abducted by Mangaljyoti Sahu alias Bunu and his associates, who took him to Taladanda canal beside Kunja Bihari High School late Thursday night and bludgeoned him to death. Bapi’s body was then taken to a stone quarry at Badhipadia in Choudwar and was buried there. Deputy commissioner of police Sanjeev Arora said the murder was a fallout of an illicit relation the deceased had allegedly developed with Bunu’s wife. Bapi, a resident of Talasahi who worked as Bunu’s driver, was dismissed from the job after Bunu learnt of the affair. Bunu then hatched a plan to eliminate Bapi, said Arora.
On the fateful night, Bunu and his associates abducted Bapi and took him near Taladanda canal, where they bludgeoned him to death. Initially, Bunu and his associate threw Bapi’s body into the canal. Since the water in the canal was shallow, they took the body to Badhipadia and buried it there.
Some locals who had seen Bapi being abducted by Bunu and his men informed the latter’s family. Bapi’s family members, on reaching Taladanda canal, found his slippers and wrist watch lying there amid blood stains. The family members then lodged a complaint with police.
A team led by SP (zone 1) Trinath Mishra, inspector-in-charge of Chaulianganj police station, Ajay Kumar Das, inspector-in-charge of Malgodown police station, Debi Prasanna Patra, and other officials conducted raids and nabbed the six accused.
The other accused are Kanha Natal and Nishakar Behera of Mathasahi, Sanjua Dalei of Aparnanagar, Dhananjay Rout of OTM Labour Colony in Choudwar and Sumanta Kumar Swain alias Kalia. They have confessed to their crime, said police.
