Puri / Bhubaneswar, Sept 23: An eight-member team of the Crime Branch (CB) Wednesday began a probe into the killing of four members of a family at Dinadia under Astarang police limits.
The move follows the state government’s decision to order a CB probe into the incident in Kakatpur in Puri district. “Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has ordered a CB inquiry into the Kakatpur murder case,” said the Chief Minister’s Office.
The bodies of Dinabandhu Mallick (60), a retired district education officer, his wife Nirmala (53), daughters Pranati (10) and Saswati (6) were found Tuesday evening in a pool of blood at their residence. Additional superintendent of police (Puri) Jagannath Pradhan said Wednesday the bodies were found on the ground floor of the two-storey building by relatives and villagers who became suspicious after they saw that the main door of their house was bolted from outside.
The CB team led by superintendent of police Ramesh Chandra Behera, which included additional superintendent of police Rabindra Kumar Sutar and inspectors Kishore Mohanty and Hrudanand Behera, reached Dinadia in the evening and collected information on the incident from officials of Astarang and Kakatpur police. Two officials from the state forensic laboratory also reached the spot to help the CB team.
