Bhubaneswar, Jan 13: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of CBI stepped up its ongoing probe into the multi-crore chit fund scam in the state Tuesday by simultaneously raiding nine places, including Bhubaneswar and various places in Ganjam, Angul Sambalpur and Balasore.
CBI sources said nine teams of the SIT began the raids at 7.30 am. The teams raided the head office and branch offices of Safex Infra India Private Limited, the sources added.
“SIT officials raided the company’s head office at Gandhi Nagar in Berhampur and another branch office at Chhatrapur in Ganjam district. Besides, the team also raided another branch of the firm in Bomikhal area here which has been shut since one and a half year,” the sources said. Safex Infra is among the 36 companies being probed by the SIT.
The Economic Offences Wing of the state Crime Branch, which was probing the chit fund scam, had earlier arrested eight employees of Safex Infra and attached 12 acre land of the firm. It had also seized a bank account of the firm last year.
