Cuttack: The Cuttack Development Authority (CDA) is actively considering construction of a multi-storey trade centre at Arunodaya Nagar here by demolishing its old market complex in the locality.
Sources said the trade centre entailing an expenditure of around Rs 200 crore will have modern facilities. “We have planned to execute the mega project through public-private-partnership (PPP) mode,” said a CDA official.
The CDA had constructed a market complex on a 3-acre land at Arunodaya Nagar years ago. The complex is now in decrepit condition due to poor maintenance. “Repair of the market complex will be an expensive affair. So, the civic body has decided to demolish the old structure and set up the mega trade centre in its place,” said the official.
According to sources, CDA has invited bids from private construction companies for the project. These companies have been asked to submit their blueprints for the project through Power Point presentations. “Officials of the civic body will examine the designs and choose the best among all for the mega project,” said a source in CDA.
Sources said CDA will soon form a high-level committee to choose a construction company for the project. A few officials of the district administration, Commissionerate police and Urban Development department will be the members of the committee who are expected to make the selection process transparent.
Moreover, the civic body may seek technical assistance from Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation of Orissa (Idco) while constructing the trade centre, sources added.
Meanwhile, the CDA will soon build a three-storey building at CDA Sector-6 to shift its office from the old market complex. According to sources, the civic body will keep 50 per cent of the rooms of the trade centre under its control while leaving the remaining to the private construction company.
“The trade centre will have its own parking lot. Besides, it will be fitted with lifts and escalators. We hope that commercial banks, educational institutions and a few corporate houses will set up their offices at the trade centre. The civic body will frame guidelines for finalising room rents at the centre,” said the official.
