New Delhi: The state government Monday sought Union government’s support to meet the 100 million tonne steel production target by 2030 and to become a major contributor in national steel production target of 300 MT.
Taking part in Chintan Shivir organised by the Ministry of Steel, Odisha Chief Secretary Asit Tripathi raised four issues and sought the Centre’s support towards enhancing steel production in the state.
He said that the Union government should consider developing waterways in Brahmani river for better transportation of goods and also introduce goods trains. He also said there is a need to develop the skills of people living in mining areas so that they can get gainful employment opportunities at the steel plants.
Tripathi further said that the Centre should consider expediting the process of environment clearance for the projects.
On the occasion, Union Petroleum, Natural Gas and Steel Minister Dharmendra Pradhan launched the logo of Steel Ministry ‘ISPATI IRADA’. Pradhan said the eastern India is on the focus of the Union government.
“Mission Purvodaya envisioned by the Prime Minister strives to work on the paradigm of eastern India driving national growth. Steel industry, having a significant presence in eastern India has a key role in this regard. We are working on making eastern India a steel hub,” the minister added.
Chintan Shivir must deliberate on how India can be a global player in steel sector, Pradhan mentioned.
“We must ensure our steel industry becomes more cost effective, work on new business models, carry out R&D efforts. We must work on the paradigm of zero exports of India’s natural resources. The government is willing to take all steps to facilitate value addition,” Pradhan stated.
