Bhubaneswar: A Central team, which is here to study the situation following demonetisation of `1000 and `500 notes, expressed its satisfaction over the initiatives taken by the state government to tackle the situation.
The team led by Union ministry of consumer affairs, food and public distribution joint secretary Suresh Kumar Vashist Wednesday held a discussion with state government officials.
While assuring to put state’s demands before Centre, Vashist said, “We came to know that this scheme has been welcomed by all though some difficulties exist. The state government has taken very good steps to remove these difficulties. Especially, the distribution of old age pension amounting to `140 crore November 15 is worth praising.”
Stating some difficulties still exist, the team said that it will point them out in the report to the Central government.
State finance special secretary AK Meena said that as per the decision taken at the State Level Bankers Committee (SLBC) meeting, the SBI has agreed to engage self-help groups (SHGs) in banking operations in rural areas.
“According to RBI, other bank officials and our own field inputs, there has been some improvement in urban areas but rural areas continue to face problems. We have requested the Central team and RBI to supply more `100 and `500 notes to rural areas,” Meena stated.
The team will also visit Berhampur, Sambalpur, Jajpur and some other places to assess ground reality.
